A Secret Garden in the Middle of Melbourne

September and October means birthday season. Most of my Australian family is celebrating their birthdays within the course of six weeks which means a lot of get-togethers, cake and day trips. The most recent birthday we celebrated, was last weekend and it was definitely a great one.

After the girls’ netball match in the morning, we drove to Docklands in the city of Melbourne. Surprisingly, it was a very warm day and we got to enjoy the sunshine and blue skies – just what you would hope for on your birthday. We went for a walk along the water, shopping (by the way, it’s a lot more relaxed here, than in in the city center) and most importantly found the cutest lunch spot ever: a little garden!

Surrounded by the tall buildings of the city, we spotted a little garden which was so much better than your average flowerbed. It grew all sorts of vegetables, herbs, trees and bushes and conveyed the feeling of being in the countryside. The yellow benches in the sun were the perfect lunch spot and there is even a small sheltered area. On top of that, the art on the containers and walls around the garden, made it the perfect picture spot.

When I came home from our day trip, I tried to find out more about the garden. It is called Docklands Community Garden and grows lemon and lime trees, a rosemary grove, vegetables and loads of other plants. Over winter, everyone is welcome to do some digging and become green thumbs in this cute little green space. If you are ever in the area, you should definitely check it out.

See ya xx
