A Day in Lancaster

Another blogpost written by one of my Glasgow visitors. Enjoy!

Today I would like to tell you about one of my favourite towns in the north of England: Lancaster. If you are situated in Glasgow and feel like taking a break from Scotland, why not head to Lancaster for the day? It’s in Lancashire, in the northwest of England, for any of you who are not familiar with the area.

If you are taking the train from Glasgow, you start your trip at Glasgow Queen Street Railway Station and the train ride takes just about two hours.

Lancaster Castle is a very stately and impressive castle. Even though we did not visit the insides of the castle, I am sure it is worthwhile if you get the time. We missed out on that, but instead, visited Judges’ Lodgings – Lancaster’s oldest town house.

As the day of our visit was the Open Day of Judges’ Lodgings, there was a flute concert at the entrance of the building. What was originally a private home, later got transformed into a house for judges. In the 1970s, the building was converted into a museum. As a visitor, you can visit three floors and admire interesting exhibitions and the original furnishing.

We spent the rest of the day in Morecambe. Morecambe is a cute seaside town, close to Lancaster. As we were experiencing a bit of rain, we decided to go to a restaurant with an amazing ocean view. Afterwards we went for a stroll along the beach.

We ended our day at our friend’s house and had a great catch-up before catching the train back to Glasgow. Lancaster is definitely worth a visit!

Yours Petra
